PR Newswire, Dec 1, 2009
Synapse customers benefit from Xenia’s triple-monitor support and higher performance related to hardware-software integration
MONTREAL and DUSSELDORF, Germany, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ — Matrox Graphics Inc., the leading manufacturer of specialized graphics solutions, is pleased to announce that FUJIFILM Europe GmbH is now shipping the Matrox Xenia(TM) Series display controller boards in several of their PACS and Mammography solutions using Fujifilm Synapse.
Fujifilm is one of the leading suppliers in computer based radiography, offering the world’s first internet-based PACS (SYNAPSE) and innovative solutions in image-aided diagnostics, medical information processing and clinical dry chemistry. After acquisition of drug maker Toyama, Fujifilm is on the way to become a healthcare company with the scope to include prevention, diagnostics and treatment.
“Matrox Xenia Series offers a number of advantages for Fujifilm Europe’s customers,” says Lutz Lammers, Senior Product Specialist–PACS, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH. “Three-monitor support with a single board means no need to handle two video boards with two drivers (which could be error-prone), resulting in easier and faster installation. There’s less power consumption related to the use of one vs. two video boards and you save one PCIe slot. And due to the possibility of hardware-software integration, higher performance.”
“Matrox is proud to have Fujifilm choose Matrox to serve the European medical diagnostic imaging market,” says George Rigas, Business Development Manager for Medical Imaging, Matrox Graphics Inc

What You Drive Defines Your Driving Style (Sometimes to the Detriment of Others)
by admin on Dec.23, 2009, under Uncategorized
Market Wire, January, 2009
Quality Planning , the ISO company
that validates policyholder information for auto insurers, has released
proprietary findings that confirm a strong correlation between what people
drive and how they drive. The findings show that drivers of
high-performance vehicles are by no means in the lead when it comes to
counting the Top 10 most-ticketed vehicles. Topping the list with the most
violations was the Hummer H2/H3, with 4.63 times the number of violations
compared to the overall average. At the other end of the spectrum is the
old standby — the pick-up truck.
Speculating why certain vehicles (and their drivers) are ticketed more or
less frequently is a subject of great debate. The driver behind the wheel
of one vehicle may be eager to express his individuality, while another
views his vehicle as nothing more than a way to get from A to B. Mark S.
Foster, author of “A Nation on Wheels: The Automobile Culture in America
Since 1945,” offered his assessment on the statistics: “Hummer drivers feel
like kings of the road because of their elevated driving position. As these
statistics show, they are leading the pack when it comes to violating the
law, which may reflect their driving attitude.”
“The sense of power that Hummer drivers derive from their vehicle may be
directly correlated with the number of violations they incur,” said Dr. Raj
Bhat, president of Quality Planning. “Or perhaps Hummer drivers, by virtue
of their driving position, are less likely to notice road hazards, signs,
pedestrians, and other drivers.”
Another surprise that emerged from the statistics: three different Scion
models made the Top 10 list of vehicles with the highest percentage of
violations. According to Toyota, the Scion tC’s average customer is under
25 years old, and the Scion demographic skews to early 30s. Youth typically
does correlate with a higher incidence of violations, and Toyota’s
popularity with youthful drivers may partially explain this new-found
notoriety. Not so surprising is that two of the most powerful cars on the
road, both sold by Mercedes, also appear in the Top 10.
Table 1 -- vehicles with highest percentage of violations Make Model Body Style Violations* Hummer H2/H3 SUV 463% Scion tC Coupe 460% Scion XB Station Wagon 403% Mercedes Benz CLK63 AMG Coupe 397% Toyota Solara Coupe 306% Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Coupe 276% Scion XA Hatchback 275% Subaru Outback Station Wagon 266% Audi A4 Sedan 264% Toyota Matrix Hatchback 264% * Violations/100,000 miles driven, expressed as percentage of average.

violations are well below average

the different service models present in the industry, key trends
affecting the contract research organizations and key analytical content
on the market dynamics. The report also reviews the competitive
landscape in terms of mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships
and service agreements.
This report is built using data and information sourced from proprietary
databases, primary and secondary research and in house analysis by a
team of industry experts. The contract research market will continue to
consolidate even as the strategic partnerships with the pharma and
biotech industry will continue to drive the market. The contract
research outsourcing activity is expected to increase in the clinical
trials stage. Emerging regions such as India, China, Latin America and
Central and Eastern Europe will drive the market by providing cost
advantage. The increasing compliance to international regulations and
standards governing the market by these regions will support this trend.
The market is driven by the increasing R&D; expenditure and a strong need
in the biopharmaceutical industry to improve R&D; efficiency by cutting
costs.
The key challenges to the contract research outsourcing market are the
current economic recession which has resulted in reduced demand
especially from the biotech industry. The contract research
organizations are also impacted by the increasing focus on safety of the
drugs and recent cases of failure in clinical trials has led to an
increase in concerns over quality. But, the contract research
organizations are changing themselves according to the international
standards with an aim to take care of the quality concerns of
biopharmaceutical companies. Therefore, the quality concerns can be
overcome and will have a small impact on the overall contract research
outsourcing market.
The leading players in this consolidated market continue to grow through
expanding their services and emerging as end to end service providers

IES VE Revit Plug-in Enhanced To Handle Intricate Geometry and Provide Export Complexity Options
by admin on Dec.16, 2009, under Uncategorized
Business Wire, Dec 01, 2009
2nd Generation Plug-in Covers Wide Range of
Geometry From Simple to Complex with Mullions and Shading Surfaces
BOSTON — Integrated
Environmental Solutions (IES), a provider of integrated performance
analysis software and consulting services for sustainable building
design, unveiled at Autodesk
University 2009 the second generation of its Revit Plug-in, which
offers enhanced model transfer capabilities. The latest IES VE Revit
Plug-in (v6.0.3) can now handle more challenging and complex geometry,
as well as offering users the option to choose the level of geometry
detail exported.
IES has improved real-world Revit to IES model transfer by enhancing the
import process to handle increasingly complex levels of geometry, such
as highly detailed curtain walling systems, multi-faceted shading
surfaces and mullions, and additional complex shapes and junctions. The
VE sets no explicit limits on the number of surfaces that it can import.
The ability to import detailed geometries can greatly enhance design
workflow and simulation accuracy, commented Dr Don McLean, Founder and
Managing Director of IES. However, in certain situations importing the
maximum level of detail can be overkill and increase simulation run
times. For example, if mullions are not being used for solar shading.
This is why adding the element of user choice is an important new
capacity.
The new version of the IES plug-in allows users to determine the level
of detail with which the model is translated from Revit; this important
new capacity gives ultimate control over geometry detail used for
performance analysis and energy modelling within IES tools. The Export
Complexity options range from the basic, to how shading surfaces are
handled, to whether curtain wall mullions are counted as shading
surfaces:
-
Simple: Curtain Walls and Curtain Systems are exported with one
huge opening with the total opening area equal to all openings; a
curtain wall with 50 panels is exported as 1 opening. -
Simple with Shading Surfaces: Export with simple type and
shading surfaces. -
Complex: Curtain Walls and Curtain Systems are exported with
several openings, panel by panel; a curtain wall with 50 panels is
exported as 50 openings. -
Complex with Shading Surfaces: Include complex type and shading
surfaces. -
Complex with Mullions and Shading Surfaces: Include complex
type, shading surfaces and mullion. Mullions in Curtain Walls and
Systems are exported as shading surfaces. A “simplified” analytical
shading surface is produced from a mullion based on its centerline,
thickness and offset.
IES VE Revit Plug-in users can set the level required within the
Settings and Info section of the IES toolbar
